The European Commission has confirmed updated timelines for the Entry/Exit System (EES) and the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS). The EES is set to launch in October 2025, followed by ETIAS in late 2026.
The EES is a digital system designed to register non-EU nationals entering and exiting 29 European countries. It aims to modernize border management, simplify controls, and prevent identity fraud. ETIAS, required for visa-free non-EU nationals, will streamline travel authorization.
On March 5, EU Home Affairs Ministers approved a progressive start for the EES, allowing 29 countries to introduce it gradually over six months. This phased implementation will give border authorities and the transportation sector ample time to adapt to the new procedures.
Following legislative approval, the Commission will announce the official launch date for the progressive rollout.
