The Greek government have announced financial support to a number of remote destinations for next 4 years the routes are:
SKY Express Routes: Athens–Astypalea, Athens–Syros, Athens–Kalymnos, Thessaloniki–Skyros, Alexandroupoli–Sitia and Aktio–Sitia.
Aegean Air subsidiary Olympic Air Routes: Athens–Leros, Athens–Skyros, Athens–Sitia and Thessaloniki–Limnos–Ikaria.
Internal air flights to many of the islands offer reasonably priced and swift alternatives to ferries often avoiding the need to overnight and the hassle of transfers to ports particularly from Athens since majority of flights leave from Athens airport.
